Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Last Thursday and Friday I attended a retreat for the Northern Porirua Kahui Ako principals. This was an opportunity to share our own school's strategic plans, vision and values. We also worked together on our NPKA strategic plan and ways we can support all of our learners. This year, Jo Beasley continues in her second year as an Across School Teacher lead for the Kahui Ako and is supporting several schools across the NPKA. We have Sharon Gibson from Pauatahanui School working across our school every second Monday in her role of Across School Teacher lead and we are excited to have this opportunity.
EARLY CLOSURE NOTICE: We have just been notified by NZEI that all NZEI Te Riu Roa members at our school are required to attend a paid union meeting, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 20th March to discuss their ongoing Collective Agreement negotiations.
All members are entitled to attend two paid union meetings per year. This of course means that the school will be severely understaffed on that afternoon. I am requesting that if at all possible, pupils are collected from school at 12.30p.m. on Wednesday, 20th March.
Children not able to be collected and/or attending Kelly Club will be supervised at school until 2.45p.m.
To help plan for the day, please contact the school office via email or phone if your child will be staying at school on that afternoon.
Just a reminder that tonight we have the first of two evenings that you can come and meet your child/children's teacher. If you haven't booked a time check the portal to see what timeslots are still avaliable.
Yesterday we held our first powhiri and Mass of Welcome for 2024. This was the largest group we have welcomed for a while with 18 new students and 1 new member of staff. Thanks to everyone who continues to support this very special occasion.
Unfortunately the school swimming pool is currently out of order. The salt water pump has stopped working and we are waiting for the part to arrive so that it can be repaired. We are hoping it will be early next week and will keep you informed. Thanks for your support and patience.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 3rd March, 2024
Third Sunday of Lent
John 2:13-25
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus clears the temple of merchants and moneychangers. He says “This is My Father's house”. When He is asked for proof of His authority, He tells them to destroy the temple and He will rebuild it in three days. Jesus' disciples would later come to understand that Jesus was referring to Himself as a temple and that He would be destroyed but in three days, God would raise Him up. We are reminded in this Gospel that our churches are holy places because we experience Christ’s presence when we gather for prayer and by the power of the Holy Spirit; Christ is also present with us each day.
It's all go in Room 9! We have been completing an About Me Sheet, Swimming with the EasySwim instructors and doing Cat in the Hat art with Mr Byrne. We were very excited when a science box arrived and we got to learn about different energies. Did you know that when something is moving, it has kinetic energy? We got to do lots of testing, observing and explaining. It was lots of fun. Yesterday we had our first powhiri. For lots of us it was our first powhiri as a senior. We think we did a fantastic job. We can't believe we are nearly half way through the term! Have a great weekend.
School Photographs - Thursday, 14th March (Date change)

There will be a total of 7 Fridays that pizza will be available for you to order. They are:
Weeks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10. Week 8 is Good Friday and there is no school.
To order pizza and/or ice blocks for your child, please follow ONE of the two processes below:
1. ORDERS FOR THE TERM: Pizza will be available for 7 WEEKS this term. So if ordering for the term, just multiply by 7. If you decide part way through the term, then calculate how many Fridays are left. Send an email to the team, outlining the following information for each child you are ordering for BUT in one email is fine.
Child’s Name:
Room No.:
Number of pizza slices - please specify if gluten free
Number of ice blocks
Cost: $1.50 per pizza slice and $1 per ice block
Multiply the order total by the number of Fridays.
2. WEEKLY ORDERS: These need to be sent to the same email address, with the same order details as in Option 1 and also paid into the same bank account number.
VERY IMPORTANT: The deadline for weekly orders is at 3p.m. on a Thursday. Unfortunately, no late orders can be accepted.
If you would like to pay in advance for a set number of weeks but not all
the weeks in this particular term, please feel free to email these details to
the team.
If your child is new to our school and only starts part way through the term,
simply adjust the number of weeks for the remainder of the term.
